In Their Own Words
Professional Musicians' Testimonials
The enthusiasm from these choirs is just wonderful – not just the enthusiasm but the way that they sing, the energy they have and their sheer willingness to do what is necessary. They make a gloriously unified sound that is just so healthy – it’s gorgeous to listen to! The choirs have been fantastic to work with; I’ve never been on stage with so many people and it has been absolutely thrilling to be involved in this!
Sarah Connolly CBEIt was very rewarding (and humbling) for us to sing with these committed youngsters, and share their enjoyment. I should be delighted to help in the future.
Gabrieli Voice LeaderThe focus of our coaching was very much on text, both in the meaning of the words and in their clarity which is really vital in this piece with such a vast orchestra to sing over! Working with the sopranos and altos on my own in the afternoon gave us an opportunity to look at blending in some of the more exposed sections…
Gabrieli Voice LeaderI was really amazed at how talented the singers were and how professional they were in their attitude. They responded to Paul extremely well and the improvement during the day was marked … The Prom could well be a life-changing event and it is the sort of experience which may well lead some of them on to a career in music and a life-long love of singing.

Gabrieli SingerThe singers were keen to try new ideas and responded quickly, and Paul seemed pleased with the results! The format allowed Paul to articulate his ideas to the whole group, whilst Ashley and I listened out for the areas which would need technical work in the sectional rehearsals, which we were to take later in the day. In these detailed sessions it was good to work with a smaller number of singers and to offer practical tips which would help them to achieve Paul’s musical ideas.
Gabrieli Voice LeaderWe were able to rehearse and discuss various technical, musical, textual, emotional and logistical aspects of our forthcoming project … I hope that our time together – and this opportunity to ask questions and explore the repertoire in a more intimate and informal environment – was both useful and insightful.
Gabrieli Voice LeaderWhen I first performed with Gabrieli Roar it was the happiest shock of my life! It was simply amazing to hear such high quality musicmaking from hundreds of young people from state schools. The effect of the singing was visceral and thrilling, and the sheer joy that Paul McCreesh managed to create, demanding but ever patient, was an inspiration. Roar is a programme which deserves all possible support and I can’t wait for my next project with them.
Nicholas Daniel OBE, Queen’s Music Medal, OboistIt is all too rare to be involved in projects that prioritise the most important challenge in the arts – how to preserve the artform for the future.
In opening the world of classical music to young people, Paul and Gabrieli Roar have committed themselves to this vital mission and nobody to my mind can do a better job of shepherding the wonderful music of the past into the consciousness of our younger generation. It is so inspiring to be a part of this.
