Gabrieli announces new CEO: Susie York Skinner

Gabrieli is delighted to announce the appointment of Susie York Skinner as Chief Executive Officer.

Susie is no stranger to Gabrieli having previously held the Chief Executive role from March 2011 until July 2017, followed by two years as our Director of Development. Her return is an important part of Gabrieli’s strategic plan to expand our renowned Gabrieli Roar choral training programme to teenagers across the UK and increase our performance activity. Susie will build on the first decade of Gabrieli Roar to reach more partners and participants, and to prioritise under-served parts of the country.

Having left Gabrieli to become Director of Development at the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, for the last 3 years Susie has been CEO of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. The expertise that she has developed in these roles in strategic leadership and change management, HR and governance, participatory youth arts and international fundraising will be key to the transformation that Gabrieli is now set to make, following the recent announcement of an investment of £1,000,000 from the Vinehill Trust.

Gabrieli’s founder and artistic director, Paul McCreesh said “Susie’s history with Gabrieli as a touring and recording ensemble and her wealth of experience in the youth arts education world makes her the perfect CEO to take us to the next step. I am personally very much looking forward to working with Susie again. Great things will happen!”.

Chair of the Board, Alan Gemes, commented “Susie’s incredible sense of strategic leadership, energy and fast decision-making is going to be critical to the growth of Gabrieli. Her warmth and natural ability to develop relationships across the organisation and its wider community will be invaluable”.

Characteristically quick to roll up her sleeves, or in this case strap on her running boots, Susie’s first decision on moving to Gabrieli has been to register to run the Vitality 10k on 22 September in aid of Gabrieli Roar’s December Tour.
