Unusually for Gabrieli, this summer’s a cappella programme focuses on secular music, particularly that of twentieth-century England. Taking its title from a Vaughan Williams partsong, the programme will explore settings of glorious poetry and how poets and composers reflect upon the natural world as a metaphor for our own emotional experience.

Gabrieli’s long-standing relationship with the City of Wroclaw, its wonderful festival International Festival Wratislavia Cantans and outstanding musicians has resulted in many exciting performances and recordings. The Wratislavia Cantans Oratorio Series on Winged Lion includes some of Gabrieli’s most highly praised recordings, including Berlioz Grande Messe des Morts, Mendelssohn Elijah and the Britten War Requiem.

In June we are delighted to be collaborating with the internationally renowned soloist Ann Hallenberg in a programme that celebrates Handel’s four years in Rome. Culminating in his virtuosic choral tour-de-force Dixit Dominus, the performances at Chateau de Versailles (4 June 2016) and Handelfestspiele Halle (5 June 2016) will include Ann Hallenberg performing the dramatic, but rarely-heard cantata Donna che in ciel.
