Haydn Harmoniemesse, St. Albans

St. Peter's Church, St. Albans

11 March 2017, 7pm

We are delighted to announce that in March 2017 Gabrieli Roar will be partnering with three of the UK’s finest youth choirs, Cantate, Hertforshire and Taplow Youth Choirs as part of a Regional Concert Series to present Haydn’s last major work, his exuberant Harmoniemesse, with soloists from the Gabrieli Consort and our period instrument ensemble, directed by Paul McCreesh. The concert will also feature first half performances celebrating all three youth choirs and their directors, Nicholas Shaw, Victoria Longdon and Gillian Dibden.

Cantate, founded in 1994, is recognised internationally as one of the UK’s most successful youth choirs. Drawing upon the young people of Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and beyond, its membership continues to enjoy season after season of exciting performance projects, concerts, workshops, overseas trips and much more.

Hertfordshire County Youth Choir is open to senior secondary pupils throughout the county and meets weekly during the autumn and spring terms. The choir performs a wide variety of repertoire, creating opportunities to develop the singers’ musicianship, both as individuals and as an ensemble.

Taplow Youth Choir was founded in 2006 and has 65 members drawn from the towns and surrounding areas of South Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire. In 2008 the choir was named ‘Youth Choir of the Year’ in the BBC Radio 3 ‘Choir of the Year’ competition, and in 2011 they performed Mendelssohn Elijah at the BBC Proms as part of the Gabrieli Young Singers Scheme.

Tickets: £12 central nave, £6 side aisles (restricted view), £4 under 16s
