Gabrieli Roar Big Give Christmas Challenge 2023

🌟 Wow! Our grand total: £55,445.50! 🌟

From the bottom of our hearts, we cannot thank you enough for your support during our Big Give Campaign. We are determined to change young lives with the power of music.

On behalf of Paul and the Gabrieli team, thank you.

The Big Give campaign

“When you talk to these young people, what strikes you is their sense of loneliness. Being part of a mass choir and a welcoming community, making a thrilling noise, just being heard…all this goes a long way to relieve that.” Paul McCreesh, Artistic Director. Since the pandemic 39% of secondary school teachers have reported a reduction in music education (ISM 2020). We believe, – and countless studies have shown – that the rapid decline in music in schools is damaging to young people.

Gabrieli Consort and players has delighted international audiences for over 40 years. Through Gabrieli Roar, we are turning our passion, skill and leadership to helping young singers all over the UK experience and excel with music. In doing so they develop confidence, self-awareness and nurture a love of choral music. We provide excellent choral training including vocal technique, musical understanding and professional performances.

Campaign Aims:

  • We aim to run a summer course around Verdi’s Requiem for 250 young singers and a Christmas tour that could reach up to 5,000 young people. Our work is never just one-off nice experiences. Working in partnership with Music Education hubs, school and cathedral choirs and academy chains we are creatin
  • Maximising the number of young singers reached, 2 Chorus Directors and 8 Gabrieli Vocal Leaders. Rehearsals and performances with a large-scale Gabrieli choir and orchestra conducted by Artistic Director Paul McCreesh.
  • We aim to inspire young singers with extraordinary experiences, offering an insight into the world of professional performers, enabling them to see the hard work, focus and dedication required of a performer, whilst experiencing the thrill of live performance.
  • We aim to ensure financial circumstances are never a barrier to participation. With the last year being financially challenging for families, bursaries will be offered to those most in need. Our commitment is that no young singer is excluded based on financial disadvantage.
  • We aim to provide a socially inclusive, artistically excellent experience. We train choirs individually in advance to ensure that participants are musically and personally prepared for an immersive, intensive experience in which musical knowledge and vocal ability can flourish and grow.

Where’s the money going?

  • £20,000 – Concert venues, artists and production – the fun bit
  • £10,000 – Access and opportunity including bursaries – ensuring everyone can take part
  • £15,000 – Accommodation, vocal faculty, pastoral care, travel – the necessary bit
  • £5,000 – Operational expenditure – the engine room

We are fundraising all the time but we do rely on the Big Give for vital funding. If we raise in excess of our target, then additional funds will further contribute towards our bursary and fee subsidy programme.
