J.S. Bach Magnificat, Easter Oratorio

J.S. Bach Magnificat, Easter Oratorio

Kimberly McCord (soprano), Julia Gooding (soprano),

Robin Blaze (alto), Paul Agnew (tenor), Neal Davies (bass)

Gabrieli Consort & Players

Paul McCreesh (conductor)

A brilliant pairing of Bach’s Easter Oratorio and Magnificat, directed by Paul McCreesh and the period experts of the Gabrieli Consort & Players. The recording was made in the Saxon church of Brand-Erbisdorf, south of Freiberg, which is possessed of a superb baroque organ and a typical 18th century organ gallery in which all the musicians were placed, lending a great deal of authenticity to the recording.

“Paul McCreesh at his best. The brilliance of the five soloists and the rich palette of the Gabrieli players, all arranged in the gallery, are up there with the best.”Diapason

“The Magnificat performance is quite a virtuoso display…McCreesh engenders energy and flair from his dramatically inclined group.”Gramophone
