CBE for Paul McCreesh!

We are delighted to congratulate Paul McCreesh who has been awarded a CBE for his services to music and music education in the King’s Birthday Honours today.

Paul established Gabrieli almost 50 years ago, quickly creating an international reputation for exciting, innovative performances with world-class musicians. Alongside his high-profile performances and award-winning recordings with us, he enjoys an international conducting career, working with many of the world’s leading orchestras. He is renowned for his passionate commitment to music education, primarily through the pioneering work of Gabrieli Roar, one of the UK’s largest youth choral singing programmes.

Paul writes:

“I am delighted and honoured that my work over many years has been recognised in this way. In turn, I’m truly grateful to many colleagues, both within Gabrieli and in the wider musical community, whose skills, intellectual curiosity and encouragement have been the bedrock of so many artistic successes.

“It is particularly pleasing that the citation for this award acknowledges my commitment to music education, which is such an essential part of my artistic identity.

“I have been privileged to work alongside outstanding teachers – all too often the unsung heroes of the musical world – and have been thrilled to make music with so many wonderful young people. I feel there is no greater imperative than for us all to ensure that this glorious, life-affirming art continues to nourish future generations.”

Gabrieli Chair of Trustees, Patrick Harrison LVO, comments:

“All of us at Gabrieli are thrilled that Paul’s passionate commitment to music has been recognised in this way. He is the driving force behind all that we do, and it is his determination and skill that underpins our relentless pursuit of excellence in performance, recording and education.”

Paul’s tireless energy and dedication have propelled Gabrieli forward for nearly five decades. We are delighted that his commitment to music and music education has been recognised in this way… and look forward to celebrating with him soon!
