Gabrieli Roar: Join Our Pride

Artistic excellence & social inclusion

Gabrieli Roar is an ambitious training scheme for exceptional teenage singers. Working with a roster of partner youth choirs spanning England, from Bradford and Teesside, via Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire, to the South-East, we provide young singers with unique opportunities to perform and record side-by-side with Gabrieli’s professional musicians.

Our inclusion of young singers at the heart of Gabrieli’s core artistic activity is what makes Gabrieli Roar stand apart from other educational projects, and is driven by Artistic Director Paul McCreesh’s desire to offer challenging opportunities to young people.

At the heart of the scheme is a training and mentoring programme in which members of Gabrieli work closely with individual choirs on an ongoing basis. After recruiting a roster of new choirs in 2015, we have continued the expansion of partnerships and performance opportunities, establishing a network of regional performances that enables choirs to bring the Gabrieli Roar experience to their own communities, whilst maintaining our focus on massed choir events. In 2018, 250 young singers joined nearly 200 Gabrieli professionals to perform and record An English Coronation, a reconstruction of the royal coronations of the twentieth century celebrating the Anglican choral tradition, with repertoire including Stanford Gloria in B Flat and Walton Coronation Te Deum.

We are determined that geography, background or financial means should never be a barrier to participation and to experiencing great choral music. We therefore make only very minimal charges to participants and offer a large number of bursaries. In order to achieve this level of inclusion, we need to raise a substantial amount of money, and we are inviting donors to JOIN OUR PRIDE, actively supporting our aim to give teenage singers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the great canon of choral repertoire, inspiring the next generation of performers and audiences.
