Becoming Baroque Masters with Gabrieli Roar

We are now over halfway through our Baroque Masters Spring tour, and as usual we are amazed by  the tenacity and dedication of this country’s music teachers and choral leaders, the inspiring beauty of this music, performed by our professional musicians, and, most of all: the sheer talent of young singers, taking a creative risk and performing great choral works.

Thank you to all those that came to support these young people as they unlock gems of the Baroque!

Along the way, we’ve taken to talking to some of our young singers, to hear what they think of our Baroque Masters tour…

Hannah, Sixth Form Student, Derby
“Learning the balance as a singer with the orchestra today has been really, really interesting – for example, singing softly so that the orchestra can be heard. And when Paul earlier was telling us about where Vivaldi came from, what inspired him to write Gloria, that was really interesting just to hear the context about what we’re actually singing. Knowing that history can help you show that to the audience…

“When the trumpeter was showing us his trumpet earlier and how it doesn’t have any valves, that was just really cool to actually see, and singing with a harpsichord – that’s cool! I just love it. It inspires me to sing with other people, making this big sound in harmony. It’s just amazing.”

Lyra, Year 8 Student, Durham
“Working with people like that who’s extremely talented… it’s really good! I like hearing different genres of music. I’ve really enjoyed listening to their talks about all the instruments that they play [and] learning about the history of it. And I’ve also really liked just the singing part and learning different parts of songs.”

Dominik, Year 6 Student, Leeds Cathedral
“This orchestra is something really special. There’s violinists, there’s double bass, there’s trumpets, there’s WAY more things I can’t name! Once the orchestra came and all the violinists played, it was just… amazing.”

… and we’re not done! We can’t wait to be joining Portsmouth and Bury St Edmunds’ choirs in our last two stops in our Baroque Masters tour. Please see our Events page to book your tickets for these final two performances now!
