Gabrieli Roar in Southwark: Buy your tickets now!
2 October 2025
Join us on 14 October 2025 for another Gabrieli Roar performance of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, on this occasion at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark with over 150 young people from across the London Borough of Southwark.
First performed in collaboration with the Essex and Leicestershire Music Hubs, this project sees Purcell’s famous hour-long opera expanded with thematically-linked folk songs and sea shanties performed between the acts of the opera. Building on the original work in this way, Purcell’s beautiful music becomes accessible to young people of all ages and abilities, with less advanced singers performing unison folk songs whilst more experienced, older participants perform Purcell’s choruses, enjoying the challenge of part-singing. Children and adults of all ages are entertained by the variety of the music, from menacing witches’ choruses to ethereal laments, and enjoy the opportunity to hear Gabrieli’s inspirational professional choir, orchestra and soloists, led by the dazzling Helen Charlston as Dido, Queen of Carthage.
Join us to celebrate these young people’s fantastic achievements and share the joy of their music making: purchase your tickets here!
