Gabrieli appoints Madeleine Cowell as General Manager

Gabrieli is delighted to announce the appointment of Madeleine Cowell as its General Manager.

Madeleine will assume the role from 09 November, taking over from outgoing General Manager John McMunn who left Gabrieli in September to head the Academy of Ancient Music. Madeleine is currently Operations and Development Coordinator at the University of Melbourne’s Buxton Contemporary Art Gallery.

Madeleine comments: “I’m delighted to be joining Gabrieli. Leading the delivery of Paul’s artistic vision is a privilege, pleasure, and responsibility that I take on with pride. Gabrieli’s world-renowned reputation, compelling education programme in Gabrieli ROAR, and their authentic relationships with supporters and stakeholders are just some of the foundations that have made this ambitious organisation so dynamic over the last 38 years. It is a critical time for classical music, as the sector wrestles with the ramifications of COVID-19, and I look forward to working with Paul and the team as we look towards Gabrieli’s 40th birthday in 2022.”

Gabrieli’s Founder and Artistic Director Paul McCreesh comments: “I am delighted to have appointed Madeleine to this role; in a field of many applications her vision, imagination and enthusiasm made her the outstanding candidate, and she will be a fantastic asset to the organisation.”

Madeleine trained as a violinist at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, holds a Masters in Arts & Cultural Management and is currently completing a PhD (Arts), both from the University of Melbourne. She has worked with some of Sydney and Melbourne’s leading arts companies including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva Australia and, prior to her current role, was Programs and Administration Manager at Melbourne Youth Orchestras. She was awarded a professional development scholarship from the Betty Amsden Foundation in 2019.
