Fund our recording of Mendelssohn's oratorio 'Elijah'

In August 2011, Gabrieli will be recording Mendelssohn’s great oratorio Elijah, to be released in September 2012 on Paul McCreesh’s own record label. The recording will follow Gabrieli’s performance of the work at the Royal Albert Hall on 28 August as part of the BBC Proms 2011 season.

Following the success of the acclaimed recording of Haydn’s Creation on the Deutsche Grammophon label, Gabrieli will recreate the massed forces of Elijah’s first performances in Paul McCreesh’s re-examination of the ever-popular oratorio. Gabrieli Consort & Players will be joined by the Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir (Poland) and a stellar cast of international soloists, with Simon Keenlyside in the title role alongside Rosemary Joshua, Sarah Connolly and Robert Murray.

The recording is the exciting culmination of the Gabrieli Young Singers’ Scheme in 2011 as we will be joined by the talented members of four of the UK’s finest youth choirs: the Chetham’s Chamber Choir, North East Youth Chorale, Taplow Youth Choir and Ulster Youth Chamber Choir. 180 young people will experience the unique opportunity to record a large-scale piece, and to perform and train with professional musicians, bringing Gabrieli’s educational activity into the very centre of our work.

Record companies are no longer able to provide the resources to fund the recording of such large-scale vocal works, so Gabrieli needs to raise money towards the cost of the recording of Elijah. By donating to the recording, you will be supporting the continuation of Gabrieli’s award-winning discography, which documents substantial musical research and brings our extra-ordinary performances to the widest audience possible.

The recording cannot happen without your help! To donate, please send a cheque payable to ‘Gabrieli’ to 372 Old Street, London, EC1V 9LT. You can also donate online using a credit or debit card via the Big Give.

For more information about the Elijah project or about supporting Gabrieli, please contact Andra East, Development Officer on 020 7613 4404 or email andra@gabrieli.com.
