London Youth ChoirDirector, Rachel Staunton
The London Youth Choir provides young singers living or educated within Greater London with a world-class choral education. Their vision is to create a flagship ensemble to represent the city of London on a world stage.
LYC aims to build one of the best youth choirs in the world, alongside a body of training choirs to develop choral singing and provide young singers in London with high-level choral training and performance opportunities.
The London Youth Choir encompasses young people aged 8-21 years through 5 different choirs; London Youth Girls’ Choir, London Youth Boys’ Choir, London Youth Training Choir, London Youth Choir and London Youth Chamber Choir. Their five choirs rehearse weekly on Monday evening during term time at St. Katharine Cree Church (Leadenhall Street) and the Gresham Centre, both in the City of London.
Founded in Autumn 2012 by Suzi Digby OBE and Rachel Staunton, they launched with 150 singers, representing 30 of London’s boroughs. The choir has now expanded to include all 33 boroughs, with over 200 members, and is growing all the time. Their vision is to inspire young people from all backgrounds to achieve the highest possible standard in choral singing, musicianship and vocal production.
