Bradford Catholic Youth ChoirDirector, Thomas Leech
Bradford Catholic Youth Choir (BCYC) is part of the Diocese of Leeds’ Schools Singing Programme, with its members coming principally from schools taking part in this. The choir is made up of four groups – two mixed Junior Choirs (Y3-6, Bradford and Keighley), Senior Boys’ Choir (Y4-13) and Senior Girls’ Choir (Y6-13).
The choirs have a distinct Catholic identity, although membership is not restricted to Catholic children, and they combine excellence in the great heritage of Catholic music with an exciting secular concert repertoire and music from other cultures and religions.
In the past two years the choir has given a number of live BBC broadcasts (four Radio 4 Daily Services, 2 Radio 4 Sunday Worships), recorded for radio and television (BBC Radio 3 Music Matters, BBC1 Songs of Praise), taken part in major works (Carmina Burana, War Requiem, Pena Requiem por la Tierra), enjoyed both local and international competition success (World Choir Games, Riga), recorded a film score (London Fields) and of course given many local concerts and sung for liturgies. Forthcoming plans include Llangollen International Eisteddfod in July, a recording alongside our other Diocesan choirs for Herald AV, tours for both Senior Choirs and Mahler Symphony 8.
