Benefit Concert: The Catherine Wheel 19.10.07

22 November concert in memory of violist to feature several Gabrieli players

Though there are no London-based Gabrieli concerts in November, The Catherine Wheel on Thursday, 22 November at 7:30 p.m. at Cadogan Hall is an opportunity to hear many of the Gabrieli principal players and celebrate St Cecilia's Day, the patron Saint of Music.  The concert is a benefit and launch event for Katherine McGillivray's Get a Life Fund.

Katherine McGillivray (1970-2006), viola, was a regular and valued principal player with the Gabrieli Consort & Players and in addition, was principal viola to The King's Consort, The Purcell Quartet, Sonnerie, the English Baroque Soloists, The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Concerto Caledonian. She was highly regarded in the business not only for her musicianship but also for her love of life.  The Get a Life Fund, inspired by her example, has been set up in Katherine McGillivray's memory to assist musicians in taking a sabbatical or similar break from their normal working lives, to re-inspire themselves and their work.

Directed by violinist Catherine Macintosh, the evening's performers are a band of Katherines.  This unique combination of artists features several Gabrieli players including Gabrieli Leader Catherine Martin, flautist Katy Bircher, clarinetist Katherine Spencer, oboist Katharina Spreckelsen, cellist Catherine Rimer and double bassist Cecelia Bruggemeyer.
