New Positions at Gabrieli 19.06.09

General Manager and Head of Artistic Planning Appointed

Paul McCreesh and the Board of Directors at Gabrieli Consort & Players are delighted to announce that Nicola Loughrey has taken up the post of General Manager at Gabrieli with immediate effect.  Nicola, who has been part of the Gabrieli team for over 4 years as Concerts & Tours Manager, will now be responsible for all general managerial and administrative issues, and oversee the business strategy of Gabrieli, working closely with her colleagues and the board of directors.  Nicola will continue to oversee the contracting of soloists, and booking of the consort and players, as well as organize all the practical aspects of UK and international concerts and touring.

Robin Tyson is taking up the newly created position of Head of Artistic Planning.  He will oversee all relationships with the network of international agents, concert halls and promoters, and work closely with Paul McCreesh in repertoire and project development.  Robin will head the Gabrieli outreach initiative in the UK, which gives a number of choirs the opportunity to work with musicians of the highest calibre.  Robin currently works as part of a team at Music Productions Ltd, from where he will continue to work on other projects.

Robin Tyson has come to music management having had a successful career as a singer, most recently with The King’s Singers, during which time the group was noted for consistently high quality programming in its 120-concert per year global schedule.  Recordings received rave reviews and plaudits, culminating in a Grammy Award in 2009.  Prior to that, Robin was a frequent performer with Gabrieli, singing as countertenor consort member and soloist in venues including the Lincoln Center, New York and St Mark’s Venice.

Nicola Loughrey said: I am pleased to take on the role of General Manager and look forward to working closely with Robin Tyson and Paul McCreesh on our many new exciting projects in the coming seasons.

Robin Tyson said: I am very excited to begin working with Paul McCreesh and Gabrieli Consort & Players, whose performances and recordings are at the forefront of music-making.  Future plans are exciting both in terms of new repertoire, and in the reach Gabrieli will have with its education programme.  I also look forward to working with the Gabrieli overseas agents to further develop touring and performances in Europe and beyond.

Paul McCreesh, Artistic Director and founder said: I am delighted with our new management team at Gabrieli: for the first time we are making a clear division between the roles of general management and artistic planning.  I am convinced this will enable the organisation to work more strategically in developing our many exciting projects over the next few seasons.  I am very glad we are able to offer Nicola Loughrey greatly increased responsibilities, especially after her excellent work in keeping the ensemble afloat after the last year of management changes; likewise it is a great pleasure to welcome Robin Tyson as a member of the team.  His many skills and repertoire knowledge will be a huge asset to Gabrieli, and I very much look forward to working with him.
