Music for Kings, Queens and Princes

St. Joseph's Church, Bradford

29 January 2017, 4pm

Gabrieli Roar, our unique choral training scheme, stands apart from other education projects by putting the inclusion of young singers at the heart of Gabrieli’s core activity. This is driven by Paul McCreesh’s desire to offer teenagers the opportunity to excel by performing side-by-side with our professional musicians.

We are delighted to announce that in January 2017 Gabrieli Roar will be partnering with Bradford Catholic Youth Choir as part of a Regional Concert Series to present the premiere of a new programme, Music for Kings, Queens & Princes’. The concert will take audiences on a journey across the centuries through music composed for royal occasions by Purcell, Parry and Vaughan Williams amongst many others.

Bradford Catholic Youth Choir comprises four separate choirs for boys and girls, and is supported by St. Bede’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic College and Holy Family Catholic High School (Keighley).  The choirs have a distinct Catholic identity and combine excellence in the great heritage of Catholic music with an exciting secular concert repertoire.

Coming under auspices of the Diocese of Leeds church programme of choral music (the largest for young people in the United Kingdom), Bradford Catholic Youth Choir’s recent highlights have included BBC1 Easter Day Songs of Praise and the choral soundtrack to the film London Fields.  Last June the senior choirs took the children’s choir role in Mahler’s epic 8th Symphony in Leeds Town Hall with the Orchestra of Opera North, and previous engagements have included Carmina Burana, Britten War Requiem and Paco Pena’s flamenco Requiem por la Tierra.  They broadcast regularly on BBC Radio, with forthcoming broadcasts in March.

As partners with Gabrieli Roar since 2015, the choir has received training from Gabrieli’s profressional musicians, and taken part in massed choral residential events and concerts with six other youth choirs in London, Cambridge and Ely.
