Gabrieli Roar at Cambridge Summer Music Festival

Ely Cathedral

04 July 2016, 7.30pm

Following the sell-out success of our Gabrieli Roar launch at Southwark Cathedral in February, our seven partner youth choirs will raise their voices once again on 04 July for a performance celebrating the great canon of English sacred music at Ely Cathedral as part of Cambridge Summer Music Festival.

Gabrieli Roar’s launch concert proved that age is no barrier to those aspiring to a professional level of performance, with an exquisite contrast between massed young voices and the spine-tingling a cappella singing of the Gabrieli Consort. We are thrilled to be bringing a new programme to Ely, with over 200 singers triumphantly celebrating Anglican choral music in an awe-inspiring building.

The programme includes works by Wesley, Tallis, Elgar, Mendelssohn, Tye and Howells, conducted by Paul McCreesh with organist William Whitehead.

Tickets are booked via Ely Cathedral’s website, or by calling their box office 01353 660349 (Mon-Sat 9.30am-4.30pm).

Outreach – Join Us!

As part of an Arts Council England funded partnership with the Cambridge Summer Music Festival, on 03 July 2016 Gabrieli Roar will open up our residential rehearsals in Cambridge to local youth choirs, singers, choir directors and music teachers.

We are inviting local singers, choral directors and educators to join us for an open rehearsal on Sunday 03 July at Hills Road Sixth Form College, Cambridge, from 3-5.30pm where you will be able to watch and learn from our talented young singers and professional musicians, as well as the opportunity to take part in a mini-workshop with Assistant Chorus Director Tom Appleton. This will be followed by a short performance with our massed choir of nearly 200 voices and conductor Paul McCreesh. Singers of all ages and abilities welcome!
