Book onlineOn the second night of the BBC Proms, a very rare opportunity to witness a recreation of the gargantuan performances of Haydn's Creation which Haydn himself conducted in Vienna. Massed Gabrieli forces, conducted by Paul McCreesh, are joined by the Chamber Choir from Chetham's School of Music. This concert launches a 'Creation'- themed first Saturday of the Proms, commemorating the joint anniversaries of Haydn and Darwin.
"Haydn's Handel-inspired hymn to God's 'glorious work' burst into life 50 years before Darwin's On the Origin of Species, but its masterly depiction of each new-created phenomenon - from blinding first light through primordial chaos to the arrival of mankind - has proved no mere seven-days'-wonder." - BBC Proms
