The Big Give Christmas Challenge

Today’s the day – The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2019 is now live!

From now until 12.00pm on Tues 10 December, all donations made via our official campaign page will be DOUBLED by our charity champion, the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Don’t miss this chance to make your support go twice as far.

This year, we’re raising funds specifically for the work of our innovative choral training scheme, Gabrieli Roar, a collaboration with a network partner youth and school choirs working in areas of limited cultural provision, from inner London and Northamptonshire to coastal Lincolnshire and Bradford. Taking a bold stance on the abilities of British teenagers, we challenge our young singers to train, rehearse, perform and record side-by-side with our acclaimed professionals.

Gabrieli Roar’s excellent track record includes a BBC Proms performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the Royal Albert Hall, award-winning recordings of both Elijah and Britten’s War Requiem, and An English Coronation: a newly curated recreation of music from the 20th century’s four coronations, performed in Ely Cathedral in July 2018, and released worldwide to critical acclaim on Signum Records in May 2019.

In 2020 we’re planning our largest Roar project to date: in July, more than 250 singers from our partners across the UK will come together at Haileybury College for an intense period of rehearsal, culminating in a full-scale public performance of Elgar The Dream of Gerontius alongside Gabrieli professionals and a trio of international soloists in Ely Cathedral. And later in the year, a smaller cohort of young singers will join our professionals and partners from the National Forum of Music, Wrocław for a further performance of the work and recording sessions in Poland ahead of commercial release on Signum Records in September 2021, marking the beginning of our 40th anniversary celebrations.
