Chetham's Chamber Choir coaching project
Susan Gilmour Bailey (soprano):
"On a very hot day in late June, my colleague Adam Green and I travelled to Chetham's School of Music in Manchester for a day of choral workshops led by Paul McCreesh. Like all of my fellow Gabrielis, we were met by a very high standard of well prepared and enthusiastic young musicians, all of whom had given up their Sunday during the final weeks of summer term to work with us. The choir was comprised of a mixture of vocal and instrumental students of various ages and abilities with whom we worked and sang as a large group, and later in sectional rehearsals. As always, our time together was far too brief, but we were able to rehearse and discuss various technical, musical, textual, emotional and logistical aspects of our forthcoming project. I was very honoured to share this day with my new colleagues from Chetham's Choir and I hope that our time together - and this opportunity to ask questions and explore the repertoire in a more intimate and informal environment - was both useful and insightful. I look forward to see them all again on the stage at the Albert Hall."
